Low Spark Films and Jean Doumanian Productions have completed the financing for the upcoming film adaptation of Galveston, written by "True Detective" creator Nic Pizzolatto. Embankment Films is handling foreign sales, and is currently representing the project in Cannes. Shooting is set to commence in October, 2014.
Tyler Davidson of Low Spark Films has joined Jean Doumanian and Patrick Daly of Jean Doumanian Productions on the producing team. Financing for the film was arranged by CAA and Cinetic Media, who will also handle the film's North American rights.
Janus Metz is set to direct. Matthias Schoenaerts, who starred in Bullhead and in Rust and Bone (for which he won the 2012 Cesar Award for Most Promising Actor), will lead the cast as "Roy." The character of "Rocky," the female lead, has yet to be cast.
“Galveston is one of the most soulful and electrifying scripts I've read in years, and I couldn’t be more excited to join Jean and Patrick in realizing Nic Pizzolatto's singular vision on the big screen," said Tyler Davidson. "With the formidable talents of director Janus Metz and the extraordinary Matthias Schoenaerts, the pieces are in place, and we're ready to go."
"I am thrilled to welcome Tyler and Low Spark on board Galveston," said Jean Doumanian. "They share our keen passion for great storytelling and we greatly look forward to bringing this project to life together."
